Make Your Own Sundae Cartoon – Sprinkles Optional

Well, it’s true, right? Add some candy to your ice cream for real fun!

Of course, jimmies (sprinkles in layman’s terms) are more than candy, they’re chocolate, and rather festive. I call chocolate ones jimmies, and only the colored ones are sprinkles. And pretty! Do some jimmies taste better than others? Of course, but there aren’t many varieties to choose from in the store. If you know of good brands, please leave in comments.

Out here they call them sprinkles and of course there’s even a big business with the name of Sprinkles. But I’m a “jimmies” fan-girl. And this is not my first cartoon about them, believe it or not! I have another cartoon about the importance of ice cream toppings! (And I talk about the history of jimmies there, too.)

The history of jimmies

The chocolate sprinkles known as, “Jimmies” were started in the Boston area a number of years ago. The reason for calling them Jimmies was because each time a person put these chocolate sprinkles on their ice-cream, the money spent on the sprinkles was donated to the Jimmy Fund. Hence, they started calling the chocolate sprinkles “Jimmies.” I am not sure whether the money is still donated to the Jimmy Fund, but the act of kindness still lives on as the name “Jimmies” still continues.

The Jimmy Fund started in 1948 as a way to support the fight against that disease we’ve all heard about.

I also like to build my own sundae. It must be my independent spirit, along with a dash of libertarianism! And while we’re talking about toppings, every. single. time. I go to the store and pass the ice cream aisle, I look for Smuckers Walnuts in Syrup, and there are NONE to be found anymore ! WTH? I thought they stopped making it, until I found that link just now. I even clicked the search button 5 times to see if they have it in a 100 miles radius!, but nope. Sad for us.

I see they have Pecans in Syrup, too, which I would like to try, but have never seen that in any store.

UPDATE: Ice cream lovers, alert, you can now find Walnuts in Syrup in Amazon!!! Seems too pricy to me, but maybe as a treat… They have Pecans in Syrup there, too! Plus all the other Smuckers toppings.

You should be able to find jimmies in most groceries, but there aren’t many choices. Amazon has dozens of chocolate jimmies to choose from, but Chef’s Select is Amazon’s Choice and has the highest ratings. I would start with that one.

Have you ever tried them? Are you going to start?

In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include—

    (1) the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;

    (2) the nature of the copyrighted work;

    (3) the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and

      Thanks for helping me fight copyright infringement, Joe Joe! Fortunately, foodies tend to be a very honorable bunch, anyway.
