Krusteaz Lemon Bars Supreme Mix Review
The box claims, Easy to Make. But we all know lemon bars have 2 layers, right? The crust and the more liquid or moist lemon filling. Not that hard, but you have to partially bake the crust first, and then add the filling. This mix has only one layer!
The box mix was easy, true, since it skipped a step. And it smelled pleasant while cooking, but I guess this is a case of really needing fresh lemons to make lemon bars. Because these were the worst lemon bars I’ve ever had, with a decided chemical acid taste.
The texture was fine. But the taste and aftertaste were all wrong.

Following the directions (his wife) made a batch of these lemon bars to be given to her Bible Study group. Luckily she always has me taste things first , because sinus issues have reduced her ability to smell somewhat. I am not fussy-but these bars were seriously nasty with a distinct metallic taste. We trashed the lot. We are disappointed in Krusteaz , not just for having a bad batch- but for ignoring numerous negative reviews on the product that date back over a year. (Discovered after the fact).
Threw out both the Shortbread and the Lemon Bars, after a few attempts to enjoy them.
Dramakitchen claims to have gotten rave reviews for her recipe with this. I can’t tell whether she made the recipe up or just copied it from the box. Hmmm. Roseburgirl also says she’s gotten great reviews. It must be something going around with certain bloggers, do ya think?
UPDATE: Oh, wow, since I wrote this review, Krusteaz has apparently retired that mix, at least at Amazon, (maybe they read my review?) and completely revamped the mix to be Meyer Lemon Bars, Meyer Lemon Bars now. Anyone want to try them and report back? 🙂 (Meyer lemons are more mild than regular lemons. I like them a lot – they’re popular here in Los Angeles.)
Amazon carries over 150 Krusteaz mixes, and almost half of them are cookies.. I might have to get the Double Peanut Butter one when it gets colder and I crave more protein and carbs! But no more lemon bars.
And baking disappointments is why I cheer myself up with cartoons, my friends.
